[516] An indeterminate phenomenon (abyākata dhamma) is a condition for an indeterminate phenomenon by contiguity condition (samanantara-paccaya).
Preceding resultant-indeterminate (vipākābyākata) and functional-indeterminate (kiriyābyākata) aggregates (khandhā) are in each case a condition for subsequent resultant-indeterminate and functional-indeterminate aggregates by contiguity condition; the life-continuum (bhavaṅga) [is a condition] for adverting (āvajjana); the functional (kiriya) [is a condition] for emergence (vuṭṭhāna); for the Arahant, conformity (anuloma) [is a condition] for fruition attainment (phala-samāpatti); for one emerging from cessation (nirodha), the functional [consciousness of the] sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana-kiriya) is a condition for fruition attainment by contiguity condition.
