[1970] A phenomenon (dhamma) with a past object (atītārammaṇa) is a condition for a phenomenon with a past object by root condition (hetu-paccaya): Roots (hetū) with a past object are a condition for the associated aggregates (khandha) by root condition. At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhikkhaṇa), roots with a past object [are a condition] for the associated aggregates.
