[325] A derived phenomenon (upādā dhamma) is a condition for a non-derived phenomenon by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya) … Natural decisive-support: depending on the excellence of the eye (cakkhu-sampadā) … the excellence of the body, the excellence of complexion, the excellence of odour, the excellence of taste … food (bhojana), one gives a gift (dāna) … causes schism in the Saṅgha. The excellence of the eye … the excellence of the body, the excellence of complexion, the excellence of odour, the excellence of taste … food is a condition for faith (saddhā), for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti), by decisive-support condition. A non-derived phenomenon is a condition for a non-derived phenomenon by decisive-support condition: object decisive-support, proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support … Natural decisive-support: depending on faith, one gives a gift … produces an attainment (samāpatti), cherishes conceit (māna), grasps a view (diṭṭhi). Depending on virtue (sīla) … faith … longing (patthanā), bodily pleasure, bodily pain, climate (utu) … a lodging (senāsana), one gives a gift … causes schism in the Saṅgha. Faith … a lodging is a condition for faith … for the attainment of fruition by decisive-support condition.
