[484] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is a defilement (kilesa), a phenomenon that is not a defilement arises, not by kamma condition (na-kamma-paccaya): dependent on defilements, the associated volition (cetanā) [arises]. Dependent on a phenomenon that is not a defilement, a phenomenon that is not a defilement arises, not by kamma condition: dependent on aggregates (khandhā) that are not defilements, the associated volition [arises]; external (bāhira) … originating from nutriment (āhārasamuṭṭhāna) … originating from temperature (utusamuṭṭhāna) … … Dependent on a phenomenon that is a defilement and a phenomenon that is not a defilement, a phenomenon that is not a defilement arises, not by kamma condition: dependent on defilements and the associated aggregates, the associated volition [arises]. In this way all the conditions should be treated.
