[257] Dependent on a not-root (na-hetu) not-wholesome (na-kusala) phenomenon (dhamma) not accompanied by roots (na-sahetuka), a not-root not-wholesome phenomenon not accompanied by roots arises by root condition (hetupaccayā): nine.
Dependent on a not-root not-unwholesome (na-akusala) phenomenon not accompanied by roots, a not-root not-unwholesome phenomenon not accompanied by roots … : nine.
Dependent on a not-root not-indeterminate (na-abyākata) phenomenon that is not rootless (na-ahetuka), a not-root not-indeterminate phenomenon that is not rootless arises by root condition: only one.
By this method (etena upāyena), the wholesome-unwholesome dyad (kusalākusaladuka) proceeds here only by way of the wholesome triad (kusalattika).
