[126] Bhikkhus, there are these two obstacles (palibodha) of the kaṭhina and two non-obstacles (apalibodha).
And what, bhikkhus, are the two obstacles of the kaṭhina? The obstacle regarding the residence (āvāsapalibodha) and the obstacle regarding the robe (cīvarapalibodha).
And how, bhikkhus, is there the obstacle regarding the residence? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu either dwells in that residence, or departs with expectation, thinking, "I shall return." Thus, bhikkhus, there is the obstacle regarding the residence.
And how, bhikkhus, is there the obstacle regarding the robe? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu's robe is either unmade or unfinished, or his expectation of a robe is not cut off. Thus, bhikkhus, there is the obstacle regarding the robe.
These, bhikkhus, are the two obstacles of the kaṭhina.
And what, bhikkhus, are the two non-obstacles of the kaṭhina? The non-obstacle regarding the residence and the non-obstacle regarding the robe.
And how, bhikkhus, is there the non-obstacle regarding the residence? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu departs from that residence, having given it up, having relinquished it, having let it go, without expectation, thinking, "I shall not return." Thus, bhikkhus, there is the non-obstacle regarding the residence.
And how, bhikkhus, is there the non-obstacle regarding the robe? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu's robe is either made, or lost, or destroyed, or burnt, or his expectation of a robe is cut off. Thus, bhikkhus, there is the non-obstacle regarding the robe.
These, bhikkhus, are the two non-obstacles of the kaṭhina.
The Kaṭhina Khandhaka, the seventh, is finished.
In this khandhaka there are twelve cases and one hundred and eighteen abbreviated sections (peyyāla openings).
