[125] 1. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the spreading of the kaṭhina (atthatakaṭhina), wishing to dwell at ease (phāsuvihārika), takes robe-cloth and departs, thinking: "I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place (āvāsa); if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will return." When he has gone outside the boundary (sīmā), it occurs to him: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not return." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kaṭhina (kaṭhinuddhāra) is ended by the finishing of the robe.
2. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the spreading of the kaṭhina, wishing to dwell at ease, takes robe-cloth and departs, thinking: "I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will return." When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him: "I will neither have this robe made, nor will I return." For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kaṭhina is ended by his decision.
3. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the spreading of the kaṭhina, wishing to dwell at ease, takes robe-cloth and departs, thinking: "I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will return." When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not return." He has that robe made. While that robe of his is being made, it is destroyed. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kaṭhina is ended by the destruction of the robe.
4. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the spreading of the kaṭhina, wishing to dwell at ease, takes robe-cloth and departs, thinking: "I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will return." Having gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, thinking, "I will return, I will return," he lets the time of the withdrawal of the kaṭhina pass while outside. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kaṭhina is ended by passing beyond the boundary.
5. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the spreading of the kaṭhina, wishing to dwell at ease, takes robe-cloth and departs, thinking: "I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will go to such-and-such a dwelling place; if it will be comfortable for me there, I will stay; if it will not be comfortable for me, I will return." Having gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, thinking, "I will return, I will return," he arrives in time for the withdrawal of the kaṭhina. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kaṭhina is together with the bhikkhus.
The pentad on dwelling at ease (phāsuvihāra) is finished.
