[102] A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina (atthatakaṭhina) departs taking an unfinished robe. When he has gone outside the boundary (sīmā), it occurs to him thus: "I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina (kaṭhinuddhāra) is determined by completion (niṭṭhānantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs taking an unfinished robe. When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I shall neither have this robe made nor return." For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is determined by resolution (sanniṭṭhānantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs taking an unfinished robe. When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return." He has that robe made. While that robe is being made, it is lost. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is determined by loss (nāsanantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs taking an unfinished robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, he hears: "In that residence, it is said, the kathina has been removed." For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is determined by hearing (savanantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs taking an unfinished robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, thinking, "I shall return, I shall return," he lets the time of the removal of the kathina pass while outside. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is determined by passing beyond the limit (sīmātikkantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs taking an unfinished robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, thinking, "I shall return, I shall return," he arrives in time for the removal of the kathina. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is together with the bhikkhus.
