[103] 1. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the kathina (atthatakaṭhino) takes an unfinished robe and departs. When he has gone outside the boundary (sīmā), it occurs to him thus: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not return." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kathina (kaṭhinuddhāra) ends with the completion [of the robe] (niṭṭhānantika).
2. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the kathina takes an unfinished robe and departs. When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I will neither have this robe made, nor will I return." For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kathina ends with the decision (sanniṭṭhānantika).
3. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the kathina takes an unfinished robe and departs. When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not return." He has that robe made. While it is being made, that robe of his is destroyed. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kathina ends with the destruction [of the robe] (nāsanantika).
4. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the kathina takes an unfinished robe and departs, [thinking,] "I will return." Gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, he hears: "The kathina, it is said, has been withdrawn in that residence." For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kathina ends with the hearing (savanantika).
5. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the kathina takes an unfinished robe and departs, [thinking,] "I will return." Gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, [thinking,] "I will return, I will return," he lets the withdrawal of the kathina pass while outside. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kathina ends with going beyond the boundary (sīmātikkantika).
6. A bhikkhu who has taken part in the kathina takes an unfinished robe and departs, [thinking,] "I will return." Gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When the robe is finished, [thinking,] "I will return, I will return," he arrives in time for the withdrawal of the kathina. For that bhikkhu the withdrawal of the kathina is together with the bhikkhus.
