[119] A bhikkhu who has spread the kaṭhina (atthatakaṭhino) departs on some business. While he is outside the boundary (sīmā), an expectation of robe-cloth (cīvarāsā) arises in him. He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth: he obtains cloth from where he had no expectation, and does not obtain it from where he had expectation. He thinks thus: 'I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return.' He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kaṭhina (kaṭhinuddhāra) is determined by the completion [of the robe] (niṭṭhānantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kaṭhina departs on some business. While he is outside the boundary, an expectation of robe-cloth arises in him. He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth: he obtains cloth from where he had no expectation, and does not obtain it from where he had expectation. He thinks thus: 'I shall neither have this robe made nor return.' For that bhikkhu the removal of the kaṭhina is determined by his resolution (sanniṭṭhānantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kaṭhina departs on some business. While he is outside the boundary, an expectation of robe-cloth arises in him. He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth: he obtains cloth from where he had no expectation, and does not obtain it from where he had expectation. He thinks thus: 'I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return.' He has that robe made. While that robe of his is being made, it is destroyed. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kaṭhina is determined by the destruction [of the robe] (nāsanantika).
A bhikkhu who has spread the kaṭhina departs on some business. While he is outside the boundary, an expectation of robe-cloth arises in him. He thinks thus: 'I shall pursue this expectation of robe-cloth right here; I shall not return.' He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth. That expectation of robe-cloth of his is cut off. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kaṭhina is determined by the cutting off of expectation (āsāvacchedika).
