[107] A bhikkhu who has performed the kathina (atthatakaṭhina) departs taking a robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary (sīmā), it occurs to him thus: "I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina (kaṭhinuddhāra) is determined by the completion [of the robe].
A bhikkhu who has performed the kathina departs taking a robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I shall not have this robe made, and I shall not return." For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina is determined by his decision.
A bhikkhu who has performed the kathina departs taking a robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return." He has that robe made. While that robe of his is being made, it is destroyed. For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina is determined by the destruction [of the robe].
A bhikkhu who has performed the kathina departs taking a robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When his robe is finished, he hears: "The kathina, it is said, has been withdrawn in that monastery." For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina is determined by hearing [the news].
A bhikkhu who has performed the kathina departs taking a robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When his robe is finished, thinking, "I shall return, I shall return," he lets the time of the removal of the kathina pass while outside. For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina is determined by passing beyond the [time-]limit.
A bhikkhu who has performed the kathina departs taking a robe, thinking, "I shall return." When he has gone outside the boundary, he has that robe made. When his robe is finished, thinking, "I shall return, I shall return," he arrives in time for the removal of the kathina. For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina is together with the [other] bhikkhus.
