[121] A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina (atthatakathina) departs on some business without having determined [his intention]: it neither occurs to him, "I will return," nor does it occur to him, "I will not return." While he is outside the boundary (sīmā), an expectation of robe-cloth (cīvara) arises for him. He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth; he obtains [cloth] where he had not expected, he does not obtain it where he had expected. He thinks thus: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not return." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina (kathinuddhāra) is ended by the completion [of the robe].
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs on some business without having determined [his intention]: it neither occurs to him, "I will return," nor does it occur to him, "I will not return." While he is outside the boundary, an expectation of robe-cloth arises for him. He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth; he obtains [cloth] where he had not expected, he does not obtain it where he had expected. He thinks thus: "I will neither have this robe made, nor will I return." For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is ended by his decision.
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs on some business without having determined [his intention]: it neither occurs to him, "I will return," nor does it occur to him, "I will not return." While he is outside the boundary, an expectation of robe-cloth arises for him. He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth; he obtains [cloth] where he had not expected, he does not obtain it where he had expected. He thinks thus: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not return." He has that robe made. While that robe is being made, it is lost. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is ended by the loss [of the robe].
A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina departs on some business without having determined [his intention]: it neither occurs to him, "I will return," nor does it occur to him, "I will not return." While he is outside the boundary, an expectation of robe-cloth arises for him. He thinks thus: "Right here I will pursue this expectation of robe-cloth; I will not return." He pursues that expectation of robe-cloth. That expectation of robe-cloth of his is cut off. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina is ended by the cutting off of expectation.
The Set of Twelve on Business is concluded.
