[122] A bhikkhu whose kathina has been spread (atthatakaṭhino) departs, intending to go to a distant region, not relinquishing his share of robe-cloth (cīvarapaṭivisa). When he has gone to that region, the bhikkhus ask him: "Friend, where did you spend the rains, and where is your share of robe-cloth?" He says: "I spent the rains in such-and-such a residence, and my share of robe-cloth is there." They say: "Go, friend, fetch that robe-cloth; we will make the robe for you here." Having gone to that residence, he asks the bhikkhus: "Friends, where is my share of robe-cloth?" They say: "Friend, here is your share of robe-cloth. Where will you go?" He says: "I will go to the residence named such-and-such; there the bhikkhus will make the robe for me." They say: "Enough, friend, do not go; we will make the robe for you here." He thinks: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not return." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina (kaṭhinuddhāra) is determined by the completion of the robe (niṭṭhānantika).
A bhikkhu whose kathina has been spread departs, intending to go to a distant region … For that bhikkhu, the removal of the kathina is determined by his decision (sannitṭhānantika).
