[123] 4. A bhikkhu who has spread the kathina (atthatakaṭhina), intending to go to a distant region, departs without giving up expectation of his share of robe-cloth (cīvarapaṭivisa). When he has gone to that region, bhikkhus ask him: "Friend, where did you spend the rains, and where is your share of robe-cloth?" He says: "I spent the rains in such-and-such a residence (āvāsa), and my share of robe-cloth is there." They say: "Go, friend, fetch that robe-cloth; we will make the robe for you here." Having gone to that residence, he asks the bhikkhus: "Friends, where is my share of robe-cloth?" They say: "This, friend, is your share of robe-cloth." Taking that robe-cloth, he goes toward that residence. On the way bhikkhus ask him: "Friend, where will you go?" He says: "I will go to the residence named such-and-such; there the bhikkhus will make the robe for me." They say: "Enough, friend, do not go; we will make the robe for you here." It occurs to him: "I will have this robe made right here; I will not go back." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kathina (kaṭhinuddhāra) is ended by the finishing (of the robe).
