[106] A bhikkhu, when the kaṭhina has been spread (atthatakaṭhina), takes a robe (cīvara) and departs without having made a determination: it neither occurs to him, "I shall return," nor does it occur to him, "I shall not return." When he has gone outside the boundary (sīmā), it occurs to him thus: "I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return." He has that robe made. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kaṭhina (kaṭhinuddhāra) is determined by the finishing of the robe.
A bhikkhu, when the kaṭhina has been spread, takes a robe and departs without having made a determination: it neither occurs to him, "I shall return," nor does it occur to him, "I shall not return." When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I shall neither have this robe made, nor shall I return." For that bhikkhu the removal of the kaṭhina is determined by the decision.
A bhikkhu, when the kaṭhina has been spread, takes a robe and departs without having made a determination: it neither occurs to him, "I shall return," nor does it occur to him, "I shall not return." When he has gone outside the boundary, it occurs to him thus: "I shall have this robe made right here; I shall not return." He has that robe made. While that robe is being made, it is lost. For that bhikkhu the removal of the kaṭhina is determined by the loss of the robe.
