[203] Then the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, when a united Saṅgha gives a verdict of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya) to one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness (sativinaya) — such, bhikkhus, is an act not in accordance with the Dhamma (adhammakamma), an act not in accordance with the Vinaya (avinayakamma); and in this way the Saṅgha incurs fault (sātisāra).
"Bhikkhus, when a united Saṅgha performs an act of further penalty (tassapāpiyasikākamma) upon one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; performs an act of censure (tajjanīyakamma) upon one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; performs an act of demotion (niyassakamma) upon one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; performs an act of banishment (pabbājanīyakamma) upon one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; performs an act of reconciliation (paṭisāraṇīyakamma) upon one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; performs an act of suspension (ukkhepanīyakamma) upon one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; grants probation (parivāsa) to one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; sends back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassanā) one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; gives mānatta to one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; rehabilitates (abbheti) one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness; confers full ordination (upasampadā) upon one who deserves a verdict of mindfulness — such, bhikkhus, is an act not in accordance with the Dhamma, an act not in accordance with the Vinaya; and in this way the Saṅgha incurs fault.
