Vinayapiṭaka · Mahāvagga (2) · Vol. 5 · Section 30

[30] Now at that time the bhikkhus who were sick had need of leaf medicines. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow leaf medicines: nimba leaf, kuṭaja leaf, paṭola leaf, sulasi leaf, and cotton (kappāsi) leaf, or whatever other leaf medicines there are that neither serve the purpose of hard food among hard foods nor serve the purpose of soft food among soft foods — having accepted them, to keep them for as long as life lasts, and to consume them when there is a reason; for one who consumes them when there is no reason, there is an offence (āpatti) of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
