[587] A person who speaks non-Dhamma (adhammavādī) convinces a person who speaks Dhamma (dhammavādī), makes him reflect, makes him look upon it, makes him consider it, shows him, and makes him see, saying: "This is the Dhamma, this is the Vinaya, this is the Teacher's instruction (satthusāsana); accept this, approve of this." If that legal issue (adhikaraṇa) is settled in this way, it is settled by non-Dhamma, by a counterfeit of settlement in presence (sammukhāvinayapaṭirūpaka).
A person who speaks non-Dhamma convinces several persons who speak Dhamma, makes them reflect, makes them look upon it, makes them consider it, shows them, and makes them see, saying: "This is the Dhamma, this is the Vinaya, this is the Teacher's instruction; accept this, approve of this." If that legal issue is settled in this way, it is settled by non-Dhamma, by a counterfeit of settlement in presence.
