[609] Thus, bhikkhus, acting according to acknowledgment (paṭiññātakaraṇa) is not in accordance with Dhamma; and thus it is in accordance with Dhamma. And how, bhikkhus, is acting according to acknowledgment not in accordance with Dhamma?
A bhikkhu has committed a pārājika offence. The Saṅgha, or several bhikkhus, or a single individual, charges him: "The venerable one has committed a pārājika." He speaks thus: "Friend, I have not committed a pārājika; I have committed a saṅghādisesa." The Saṅgha deals with him for a saṅghādisesa. This is acting according to acknowledgment not in accordance with Dhamma.
A bhikkhu has committed a pārājika. The Saṅgha, or several bhikkhus, or a single individual, charges him: "The venerable one has committed a pārājika." He speaks thus: "Friend, I have not committed a pārājika; I have committed a thullaccaya." The Saṅgha deals with him for a thullaccaya. This is acting according to acknowledgment not in accordance with Dhamma.
A bhikkhu has committed a pārājika. The Saṅgha, or several bhikkhus, or a single individual, charges him: "The venerable one has committed a pārājika." This is acting according to acknowledgment not in accordance with Dhamma.

Thus indeed, bhikkhus, acting according to acknowledgment is not in accordance with Dhamma.
