[628] Then, among the other bhikkhus belonging to the one faction, a learned and capable bhikkhu (bhikkhu) should inform his own faction:
"Let the venerable ones hear me. While we have been living having become quarrelsome, having become contentious, having fallen into dispute, much has been committed that is unworthy of ascetics, in what was said and done. If we deal with one another for these offences (āpatti), it may be that this legal issue (adhikaraṇa) would conduce to harshness, to ferocity, to schism. If it is the right time for the venerable ones, I would confess in the midst of the Saṅgha, by the covering over with grass (tiṇavatthāraka), both the offence of the venerable ones and my own offence, for the sake of the venerable ones and for my own sake — excepting a grave fault (thullavajja), excepting what is connected with householders."
