[632] Now at that time bhikkhus were disputing with bhikkhunīs, and bhikkhunīs were disputing with bhikkhus. And the bhikkhu Channa, intruding among the bhikkhunīs, disputed with the bhikkhus, taking the side of the bhikkhunīs. Those bhikkhus who were of few wishes … were annoyed, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can the bhikkhu Channa, intruding among the bhikkhunīs, dispute with the bhikkhus, taking the side of the bhikkhunīs?" Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Is it true, bhikkhus, …" "It is true, Blessed One." … Having rebuked him and given a talk on the Dhamma, he addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, there are these four kinds of legal issues (adhikaraṇa): legal issues arising from disputes (vivādādhikaraṇa), legal issues arising from accusations (anuvādādhikaraṇa), legal issues arising from offenses (āpattādhikaraṇa), and legal issues arising from business (kiccādhikaraṇa)."
