[101] Now at that time a certain lay follower (upāsaka) wished to have a pond built for the benefit of the Saṅgha. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow a pond."
The bank of the pond crumbled … "Bhikkhus, I allow you to build up three kinds of facing: a facing of brick, a facing of stone, and a facing of wood."
Those climbing up were troubled. "Bhikkhus, I allow three kinds of stairs: brick stairs, stone stairs, and wooden stairs."
Those climbing up fell off … "Bhikkhus, I allow a railing to hold on to."
The water in the pond became stale … "Bhikkhus, I allow a water channel and a water drain."
