[109] Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus (chabbaggiyā bhikkhū) ate from a single vessel; they drank from a single cup; they lay down together on a single bed; they lay down together on a single spread; they lay down together under a single covering; they lay down together with a single spread-and-covering. People complained, criticized, and spread it about, … "just like householders who enjoy sensual pleasures" … They reported this matter to the Blessed One. … "Bhikkhus, one should not eat from a single vessel; one should not drink from a single cup; one should not lie down together on a single bed; one should not lie down together on a single spread; one should not lie down together under a single covering; one should not lie down together with a single spread-and-covering. Whoever should so lie down commits an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
