[140] Bhikkhus, it should be granted in this way. That sick bhikkhu should approach the Saṅgha, arrange his upper robe over one shoulder, pay homage at the feet of the senior bhikkhus, squat down on his heels, raise his joined palms, and be made to say thus:
"Venerable sirs, I am sick; I am not able to carry my bowl about without a strap (sikkā). Venerable sirs, I ask the Saṅgha for the authorization to use a strap (sikkāsammati)."
It should be asked for a second time; it should be asked for a third time.
