[219] Now at that time there was a mountaintop festival (giraggasamajja) at Rājagaha. People prepared mattresses (bhisi) for the sake of the chief ministers — a wool mattress, a cloth mattress, a bark mattress, a grass mattress, and a leaf mattress. When the festival was over, they stripped off the outer covering and carried it away. Bhikkhus saw much wool, cloth, bark, grass, and leaves discarded at the festival site. Having seen this, they reported the matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow five kinds of mattresses: a wool mattress, a cloth mattress, a bark mattress, a grass mattress, and a leaf mattress."
