[243] Then it occurred to Anāthapiṇḍika the householder: "Formerly, when I came, this householder would lay aside all his business and exchange friendly greetings with me alone; but now he appears distracted, and he is giving orders to his slaves and workmen: 'Well then, good men, rise up early in the morning and cook rice-gruels, cook boiled rice, prepare curries, prepare special delicacies (uttaribhaṅga).' Can it be that this householder is to hold a wedding for a son, or a wedding for a daughter, or has a great sacrifice been arranged, or has King Seniya Bimbisāra of Magadha been invited for tomorrow together with his body of troops?"
