[266] Then the Blessed One, on that ground, on that occasion, had the Saṅgha of bhikkhus convened and questioned the bhikkhus: "Is it true, as reported, bhikkhus, that bhikkhus who are pupils (antevāsika) of the group-of-six bhikkhus, saying, 'It is only for what belongs to the Saṅgha that the Blessed One has allowed [allocation] according to seniority, not for what has been made for a designated purpose (uddissakata),' go on ahead of the Saṅgha of bhikkhus headed by the Buddha and take possession of pavilions, take possession of coverings, take possession of spaces, [thinking,] 'This will be for our preceptors (upajjhāya), this will be for our teachers (ācariya), this will be for us'?"

Having rebuked them and given a Dhamma talk, he addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, [allocation] according to seniority is not to be obstructed even in the case of what has been made for a designated purpose. Whoever should obstruct it commits an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
