[270] Then, when that night had passed, the householder Anāthapiṇḍika, having had excellent hard food and soft food prepared, had the time announced to the Blessed One: "It is time, venerable sir; the meal is ready." Then the Blessed One, in the morning, having dressed, taking bowl and robe, approached the residence of the householder Anāthapiṇḍika; having approached, he sat down on the seat prepared, together with the Saṅgha of bhikkhus. Then the householder Anāthapiṇḍika, having with his own hand served and satisfied the Saṅgha of bhikkhus headed by the Buddha with excellent hard food and soft food, when the Blessed One had finished eating and had withdrawn his hand from the bowl, sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the householder Anāthapiṇḍika said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, how should I proceed with regard to the Jetavana?" "Well then, householder, dedicate the Jetavana to the Saṅgha of the four quarters (cātuddisa saṅgha), present and yet to come." "Yes, venerable sir," the householder Anāthapiṇḍika replied in assent to the Blessed One, and he dedicated the Jetavana to the Saṅgha of the four quarters, present and yet to come. Then the Blessed One expressed appreciation (anumodanā) to the householder Anāthapiṇḍika with these verses:
