[282] Then it occurred to the bhikkhus: "How many takings of lodgings (senāsanagāha) are there?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, there are these three takings of lodgings: the earlier one, the later one, and the one released in the interval. The earlier one should be taken on the day after the full moon of Āsāḷha; the later one should be taken when a month has passed after the full moon of Āsāḷha; the one released in the interval should be taken on the day after the Pavāraṇā, for the sake of the rains residence (vassāvāsa) to come. These, bhikkhus, are the three takings of lodgings."
