[350] Now at that time a Koḷiyan son named Kakkudha, an attendant of the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna, had recently died and had been reborn in a certain mind-made body (manomaya kāya). The acquisition of personal form (attabhāvapaṭilābha) he obtained was of such a kind as to be the size of two or three Magadhan village fields. With that acquisition of personal form he afflicted neither himself nor another.
Then Kakkudha the deva's son approached the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna; having approached and paid homage to the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna, he stood to one side. Standing to one side, Kakkudha the deva's son said this to the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna: "Venerable sir, in Devadatta — overcome by gain, honor, and fame, his mind (citta) obsessed by them — there arose a wish of this kind: 'I shall lead the community of bhikkhus.' And, venerable sir, with the very arising of that thought (cittuppāda), Devadatta fell away from that psychic power (iddhi)."
This is what Kakkudha the deva's son said; having said this, he paid homage to the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna, circumambulated him keeping his right side towards him, and vanished right there.
