[354] "Furthermore, Moggallāna, here some teacher, being impure in his Dhamma teaching (dhammadesanā), claims, 'I am pure in my Dhamma teaching,' and, 'My Dhamma teaching is pure, bright, undefiled.' His disciples know of him thus: 'This worthy teacher, being impure in his Dhamma teaching, claims, "I am pure in my Dhamma teaching," and, "My Dhamma teaching is pure, bright, undefiled." Now if we were to report this to the householders, it would not be agreeable to him; and how could we treat him with what is disagreeable to him? Moreover, he is honored with robes, alms-food, lodgings, and medicinal requisites for the sick. Whatever he himself does, by that he himself will be known.' Such a teacher, Moggallāna, the disciples protect with respect to his Dhamma teaching; and such a teacher expects protection from his disciples with respect to his Dhamma teaching."
