[370] Then those two men, thinking, "Why now is that one man so long in coming?" went back along the path and saw the Blessed One seated at the foot of a certain tree. Having seen him, they approached the Blessed One; having approached, they paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. The Blessed One gave them a progressive discourse (anupubbikathā) … having become independent of others in the Teacher's teaching, they said this to the Blessed One: "Excellent, venerable sir! Excellent, venerable sir! … May the Blessed One remember us as lay followers (upāsakā) who have gone for refuge for life from this day forward."
Then the Blessed One said to those men: "Friends, do not go by this way; go by this way," and sent them off by another road.
