[402] Bhikkhus, overcome and with his mind (citta) consumed by three bad qualities (asaddhamma), Devadatta is bound for the plane of misery, bound for hell, abiding there for an eon, incurable. By which three? Evil desires, evil friendship, and, upon attaining a merely inferior distinction, he stopped short midway. Bhikkhus, overcome and with his mind consumed by these three bad qualities, Devadatta is bound for the plane of misery, bound for hell, abiding there for an eon.
