[492] When the Pātimokkha has been suspended for a **bhikkhu**, the assembly rises on account of one or another of the ten dangers — the danger from kings … or the danger to the holy life (brahmacariya). Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who wishes, when that person is present face to face in the midst of the Saṅgha — in that residence or in another residence — may declare:
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. The discussion concerning the person named so-and-so's renunciation of the training (sikkhā) remains unfinished; that matter is undecided. If it is the right time for the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha should decide that matter."
If he should obtain that, it is well. If he should not obtain it, then on the Uposatha day — the fourteenth or the fifteenth — when that person is present face to face in the midst of the Saṅgha, it should be declared:
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. The discussion concerning the person named so-and-so's renunciation of the training remains unfinished; that matter is undecided. I suspend the Pātimokkha for him. The Pātimokkha should not be recited while he is present."
This is a legitimate suspension of the Pātimokkha.
