[543] Now at that time the entire Saṅgha of bhikkhunīs (bhikkhunī) went for the exhortation (ovāda). People complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "These are the wives of these men; these are the mistresses of these men. Now these men will take their pleasure together with these women." They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, the exhortation is not to be gone to by the entire Saṅgha of bhikkhunīs. Should one go, there is an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). Bhikkhus, I allow four or five bhikkhunīs to go for the exhortation."
