[560] Now at that time a certain woman who had formerly been a wrestler (purāṇamallī) had gone forth among the bhikkhunīs. Seeing a feeble bhikkhu in the street, she gave him a blow with her shoulder and knocked him over. Bhikkhus were annoyed, complained, and spread it about, saying, "How can a bhikkhunī give a blow to a bhikkhu?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, a bhikkhunī should not give a blow to a bhikkhu; whoever should give one commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). I allow, bhikkhus, a bhikkhunī, on seeing a bhikkhu, to step aside while still at a distance and give him the way."
