[562] Now at that time the bhikkhunīs (bhikkhunī) of the group of six, upon seeing a bhikkhu, turned their bowls over and showed the bottom of the bowl. Those bhikkhus complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can the bhikkhunīs of the group of six, upon seeing a bhikkhu, turn their bowls over and show the bottom of the bowl?" Then they reported this matter to the Blessed One. … "Bhikkhus, a bhikkhunī, upon seeing a bhikkhu, should not turn her bowl over and show the bottom of the bowl; whoever should show it commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). I allow, bhikkhus, a bhikkhunī, upon seeing a bhikkhu, to show her bowl turned upright; and with whatever food (āmisa) there is in the bowl, the bhikkhu should be invited."
