[563] Now at that time a male organ (purisabyañjana) had been discarded on a street in Sāvatthī. Bhikkhunīs gazed at it intently. People raised a cry of derision. Those bhikkhunīs were abashed. Then those bhikkhunīs, having gone to the nuns' quarters, informed the bhikkhunīs of this matter. Those bhikkhunīs who were of few wishes (appicchā) … complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How indeed can bhikkhunīs gaze upon a male organ?" Then those bhikkhunīs informed the bhikkhus of this matter … They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, a male organ is not to be gazed upon by a bhikkhunī; whoever should gaze upon one commits an offense of wrong conduct (dukkaṭa)."
