[564] Now at that time, people gave material offerings (āmisa) to the bhikkhus. The bhikkhus gave them to the bhikkhunīs. People complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can the venerable ones give to others what was given for their own use? Do we not also know how to give a gift?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, what has been given for one's own use should not be given to others. Whoever should give it commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
