[573] Now at that time women who had been fully ordained were seen to be without the sexual mark (animittā), with a mere token of the mark (nimittamattā), without menstrual blood (alohitā), with constant menstrual flow (dhuvalohitā), constantly wearing a cloth (dhuvacoḷā), dripping incontinently (paggharantī), with a genital protrusion (sikharaṇī), female paṇḍakas (itthīpaṇḍakā), manlike women (vepurisikā), women whose passages have run together (sambhinnā), and women with the characteristics of both sexes (ubhatobyañjanakā)… They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow that, when giving the full ordination, she be asked about the twenty-four obstructing conditions (antarāyikā dhammā). And thus, bhikkhus, should she be asked:
'Are you not without the sexual mark?
Are you not one with a mere token of the mark?
Are you not without blood?
Are you not one with constant blood?
Are you not one constantly wearing a cloth?
Are you not one who drips?
Are you not one with a protrusion?
Are you not a female paṇḍaka?
Are you not a manlike woman?
Are you not one whose passages have run together?
Are you not one with the characteristics of both sexes?
Do you have diseases such as these: leprosy, boils, eczema, consumption, epilepsy?
Are you a human being?
Are you a woman?
Are you a free woman?
Are you free from debt?
Are you not in the king's service?
Have you been permitted by your mother and father, and by your husband?
Are you fully twenty years of age?
Are your bowl and robes complete?
What is your name?
What is the name of your preceptor (pavattinī)?'"
