[625] Now at that time King Udena was staying in the pleasure garden together with his retinue, with the women of the harem (orodha). The harem of King Udena heard: "It is said that our teacher, the venerable Ānanda, is seated at the root of a certain tree not far from the garden." Then the harem of King Udena said to King Udena: "Sire, it is said that our teacher, the venerable Ānanda, is seated at the root of a certain tree not far from the garden. We wish, sire, to see the venerable Ānanda." "Well then, see the ascetic Ānanda."
Then the harem of King Udena approached the Venerable Ānanda; having approached and paid homage to the Venerable Ānanda, they sat down to one side. As they sat to one side, the Venerable Ānanda instructed, urged, roused, and gladdened the harem of King Udena with a talk on the Dhamma.
Then the harem of King Udena, having been instructed, urged, roused, and gladdened by the Venerable Ānanda with a talk on the Dhamma, presented five hundred upper robes (uttarāsaṅga) to the Venerable Ānanda. Then the harem of King Udena, having delighted in and rejoiced at the words of the Venerable Ānanda, rose from their seats, paid homage to the Venerable Ānanda, circumambulated him keeping him on the right, and approached King Udena.
