[1013] Whatever is for the restraint of shameless (dummaṅkū) persons … whatever is for the comfortable dwelling of well-behaved (pesala) bhikkhus … whatever is for the restraint of taints (āsava) pertaining to the present life … whatever is for warding off taints pertaining to lives to come … whatever is for the arousing of confidence in those without confidence … whatever is for the increase of confidence in those already confident … whatever is for the stability of the true Dhamma (saddhamma) … whatever is for the support of the Discipline (vinayānuggaha) — that is for the excellence of the Saṅgha (saṅghasuṭṭhu); whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for the comfort of the Saṅgha; whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for the restraint of shameless persons; whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for the comfortable dwelling of well-behaved bhikkhus; whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for the restraint of taints pertaining to the present life; whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for warding off taints pertaining to lives to come; whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for the arousing of confidence in those without confidence; whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for the increase of confidence in those already confident; whatever is for the support of the Discipline, that is for the stability of the true Dhamma.
