[1097] "Settlement should be known" means: the seven settlements (samatha) should be known — removal in the presence (sammukhāvinaya) should be known; the verdict of mindfulness (sativinaya) should be known; the verdict of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya) should be known; acting according to acknowledgment (paṭiññātakaraṇa) should be known; the decision by majority (yebhuyyasikā) should be known; the verdict of aggravated misconduct (tassapāpiyasikā) should be known; the covering over with grass (tiṇavatthāraka) should be known.
