[1142] Endowed with how many factors is a person unable to spread the kaṭhina? Endowed with how many factors is a person able to spread the kaṭhina? Endowed with eight factors a person is unable to spread the kaṭhina; endowed with eight factors a person is able to spread the kaṭhina. Endowed with which eight factors is a person unable to spread the kaṭhina? He does not know the preliminary duties (pubbakaraṇa); he does not know the relinquishment (paccuddhāra); he does not know the determination (adhiṭṭhāna); he does not know the spreading (atthāra); he does not know the matrix (mātikā); he does not know the constraints (palibodha); he does not know the withdrawal (uddhāra); he does not know the benefits (ānisaṃsa). Endowed with these eight factors a person is unable to spread the kaṭhina. Endowed with which eight factors is a person able to spread the kaṭhina? He knows the preliminary duties; he knows the relinquishment; he knows the determination; he knows the spreading; he knows the matrix; he knows the constraints; he knows the withdrawal; he knows the benefits. Endowed with these eight factors a person is able to spread the kaṭhina.
