[1164] *(Summary verse — uddāna of the first chapter)*
The Uposatha (uposatha), the Pavāraṇā (pavāraṇā), an offense (āpatti), the sick (gilānaka),
proper conduct (abhisamācāra) and the conscientious one (lajjī),
higher virtue (adhisīla) and frivolity (dava),
misconduct (anācāra), injuring (upaghāti),
wrongness (micchā) and likewise an offense,
and "by reason of which offense … of the Buddha [reproach is spoken]" —
this is the collection of the first chapter (vagga).
