[1193] "Venerable sir, how many kinds of false speech (musāvāda) are there?"
"Upāli, there are these five kinds of false speech. What five? There is false speech that entails an offense of pārājika; there is false speech that entails an offense of saṅghādisesa; there is false speech that entails an offense of thullaccaya; there is false speech that entails an offense of pācittiya; there is false speech that entails an offense of dukkaṭa. These, Upāli, are the five kinds of false speech."
