[1194] "Venerable sir, when a bhikkhu (bhikkhu) possessed of how many factors suspends the Uposatha (uposatha) or the Pavāraṇā (pavāraṇā) in the midst of the Saṅgha (saṅgha), should the Saṅgha, having overruled him, saying: 'Enough, bhikkhu! Let there be no strife, no quarrel, no contention, no dispute!' — carry out the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā?"
"Upāli, when a bhikkhu possessed of five factors suspends the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā in the midst of the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha, having overruled him, saying: 'Enough, bhikkhu! Let there be no strife, no quarrel, no contention, no dispute!' — should carry out the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā. Which five? He is shameless (alajjī); he is a fool; he is not one of regular standing (apakatatta); he speaks with the intention of making [the other] fall away, not with the intention of [his] emerging [from the offense]. When a bhikkhu possessed of these five factors, Upāli, suspends the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā in the midst of the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha, having overruled him, saying: 'Enough, bhikkhu! Let there be no strife, no quarrel, no contention, no dispute!' — should carry out the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā.
"Also, Upāli, when a bhikkhu possessed of another five factors suspends the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā in the midst of the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha, having overruled him, saying: 'Enough, bhikkhu! Let there be no strife, no quarrel, no contention, no dispute!' — should carry out the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā. Which five? He is of impure bodily conduct; he is of impure verbal conduct; he is of impure livelihood; he is a fool, incompetent; he is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels. When a bhikkhu possessed of these five factors, Upāli, suspends the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā in the midst of the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha, having overruled him, saying: 'Enough, bhikkhu! Let there be no strife, no quarrel, no contention, no dispute!' — should carry out the Uposatha or the Pavāraṇā."
