[1227] "Venerable sir, when a more junior bhikkhu pays homage at the feet of a more senior bhikkhu, how many qualities should he establish within himself in paying homage at the feet?"
"Upāli, when a more junior bhikkhu pays homage at the feet of a more senior bhikkhu, he should establish five qualities within himself in paying homage at the feet. What five? Upāli, a more junior bhikkhu, when paying homage at the feet of a more senior bhikkhu, having arranged his upper robe over one shoulder and raised his joined palms in reverence (añjali), stroking the feet with both palms, having established affection and respect, should pay homage at the feet. Upāli, when a more junior bhikkhu pays homage at the feet of a more senior bhikkhu, he should establish these five qualities within himself and pay homage at the feet."
