[488] On account of taking what is not given, how many offences (āpatti) does one commit?
On account of taking what is not given, one commits three offences: one takes, by way of theft (theyyasaṅkhātaṃ), what is not given, worth five māsakas or more than five māsakas — an offence of pārājika; one takes, by way of theft, what is not given, worth more than one māsaka or less than five māsakas — an offence of thullaccaya; one takes, by way of theft, what is not given, worth one māsaka or less than one māsaka — an offence of dukkaṭa. On account of taking what is not given, one commits these three offences.
