[860] (Summary verse)
Offence (āpatti), the classes of offences,
the decided cases (vinīta), again sevenfold;
the decided cases, and disrespect,
respect, and the root as well;
again the decided cases, failure (vipatti),
origination (samuṭṭhāna), disputing,¹
accusing, the principles conducive to mutual remembrance (sāraṇīya),
and the legal issue (adhikaraṇa) of schism;
the seven means of settlement (samatha) have been declared —
these are the seventeen² terms.
